WEHOWSAFETY

A practical PPE sourcing guide

Define the task, product construction, documentation and order requirements.

A useful enquiry starts with the task, not just a product name. Prepare the details below so model selection, documentation and commercial terms can be discussed clearly.

1. Define the work environment

Describe the task, indoor or outdoor use, wet or dry conditions, handling needs and any relevant hazards identified in your workplace assessment. PPE selection should follow your employer’s competent safety assessment and the selected model’s instructions.

2. Specify the product construction

Footwear: upper style, size range, toe-cap requirements, protective midsole and outsole characteristics. Rain boots: distinguish standard rain boots from models requiring both toe protection and penetration resistance.

Welding wear: cowhide grade, coverage, seams, fastenings and garment measurements. Gloves: leather or liner material, coating, cuff length, fit and task-specific protection. Welding shields: intended process, viewing system, filter requirements and compatibility with other PPE.

3. Confirm model-specific documentation

State your destination market and any applicable purchasing requirements. Request the exact model’s technical sheet, test reports, instructions and conformity documentation where required. A family name, photograph or generic certificate does not establish the performance of a specific item.

4. Share the order details

Include the quantity, size breakdown, colour, packing needs, labelling or branding request and delivery destination. Confirm samples, lead time, shipping terms and the agreed final specification before placing an order.

More categories for a complete PPE brief

Beyond our initial six collections, common industrial PPE groups include head protection, safety eyewear, hearing protection, respiratory protection, high-visibility clothing, fall protection, chemical-handling gloves and protective coveralls. Ask about availability rather than assuming every category is in stock.

For category orientation, see the official 3M Worker Health & Safety range and Portwest product documentation directory. These independent references do not imply affiliation, authorisation or certification of WeHowSafety products.
